An event for Alexander Technique teachers, 'Walter Carington's Games', with Seán Carey on Saturday afternoon of 16th March 2024 from 1:30 - 4:30pm at 10 Harley Street, London W1G 9PF.

To complement the recent release of his book Exploring the Alexander Technique with Walter Carrington: Lessons and Games, Seán Carey invites you to a HITE workshop at 10 Harley Street. This workshop will not only delve into the profound legacy of Walter Carrington but also offers a hands-on experience with some of the Games that were a cornerstone of Walter's teaching.

During the workshop, Seán will share insights into Walter's unique approach and demonstrate selected Games, providing participants with a first-hand understanding of these transformative techniques. Expect to engage in practical sessions such as: 'releasing arms with direction', 'moving a student back and forward in the chair', 'leaning against a back support', 'hands on the back of a chair in sitting' and 'taking a head'.

Adding to the richness of the workshop, Seán will be joined by Kamal Thapen, trained by Walter and Dilys Carrington and a former chair of STAT, and Claire Rennie, a teacher trained by Shoshana Kaminitz. Together, they will create an immersive experience that combines knowledge, practice, and the wisdom passed down through generations of Alexander Technique teaching.

About Seán Carey

Seán Carey PhD studied social science as both an undergraduate and postgraduate at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He started taking lessons in the Alexander Technique as part of his rehabilitation and recovery from a motorcycle accident in which his right leg and foot were badly broken. He became so fascinated with the process that he went on to train as a teacher qualifying in 1986 at Alexander Teaching Associates (ATA).
Before, during and after training Seán had lessons from a number of teachers taught by FM Alexander, including Marjory Barlow, Walter Carrington, Sidney Holland and Peggy Williams. He has worked on five STAT-approved teacher training courses. He has also published six books on the Technique and written about it for Athletics Weekly, Talkback and The Irish Times.
