Based in the Isle of Man, John Nicholls will be sharing the benefit of his more than 40 years of international teaching experience in Harley Street. Your hosts, the directors from HITE, will be running the workshop from 1:30pm to 4:30pm at 10 Harley Street, London W1G 9PF.

When asked what would be the best form of exercise for a sedentary office worker, it's reported that FM replied "Whispered Ahs with hands over the back of the chair".

However, both of these practices can seem extremely weird, and even intimidating, to the average person beginning to have lessons, and some teachers will therefore avoid teaching them – which is a pity as they can be so valuable.

I would like to share with you ways I have developed over many years of teaching to ease people into these procedures in a step-by-step fashion that makes them much more approachable and understandable. It also makes it easier for private students to see how these practices can be incorporated into everyday activities and situations.

About John Nicholls

John trained with Walter and Dilys Carrington, graduating in 1976, and at their invitation, stayed on as an assistant teacher, teaching daily alongside the Carringtons for eleven years. He then went to Australia and directed a training course in Melbourne and, on returning to England, directed a course in Brighton and travelled to teach lessons and workshops in many different European countries and the USA. In 2002 John moved to New York and directed a teacher training programme there from 2004 to 2016. In all three places he also established large private practices and, as a teacher trainer, has graduated over 100 teachers in the UK, Australia and the USA.

John was Chairman of STAT in 1985 and 1986 and in 1986 he gave the annual STAT Alexander Memorial Lecture, published under the title The Alexander Technique in a Larger Context; in 2005 he gave the annual Alexander Memorial Lecture for AmSAT in the USA, published as Where Are We Going? and then the AmSAT Keynote address in 2014 titled A New View of the Alexander Technique. John has been a featured guest teacher at many national society conferences and international congresses and his book, In Conversation with Sean Carey, was published in 1991. He is currently working on two more books.

John is now based on the Isle of Man (his birthplace) from where, in the past several years, he has travelled to teach in the UK and many other parts of Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the USA and South American countries.

All participants will receive a record of attendance after the event.
Note: It is HITE’s policy not to record workshops as this helps to provide a ‘safe space’ for workshop attendees. Attendees are also asked not to record or film sessions.

Please book early to avoid disappointment as places are limited and note that no refunds will be possible after 22nd March 2024.
